Childcare

Preschool (förskola)

All children between the ages of 1 and 5 who have both parents working or studying are entitled to a placement in preschool when needed. The child must be at least 1 year old before they can start preschool. Preschool is meant to be fun, safe and educational for all of the children who attend.

If you are working or studying, you have the right to apply for a pre-school place for your child. You pay for the place, not for the number of hours. The amount you pay depends on your income as well as the number of children you have in pre-school.

You have to apply for preschool for your child. Use the e-service Ansök om plats inom förskola eller fritidshem (Apply for a place in preschool)

Unemployed or on parental leave

Children whose parents are on parental leave or unemployed are entitled to 15 hours of preschool per week, scheduled on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday between 9 AM and 2 PM. Lunch is included. You can apply for this place from the time your child is 1 year old.  You pay a fee for your child's pre-school place.

You have to apply for preschool for your child. Use the e-service Ansök om plats inom förskola eller fritidshem (Apply for a place in preschool).

To apply for a place at the independent preschool Olympica, visit their website: https://olympica.se/haksberg/skola/ansok-till-oss-haksberg/ External link..

Public Pre-school (allmän förskola)

A public pre-school place is available for children aged 3–5 years, starting from the autumn term of the year they turn 3. This placement entitles the child to 15 hours per week, from Tuesday to Thursday between 10 AM and 2 PM, during regular school days. However, it does not include childcare during school holidays. The schedule is fixed, meaning you cannot choose how to allocate your child’s 15 hours per week. Lunch is not included.

A public pre-school place is free of charge and cannot be combined with a regular pre-school place. 15 hours are not automatically free. You must apply for public preeschool. Contact the childcare administrators by email or phone if you wish to apply for a place for your child in Public Pre-school (15 hours).

Discount on the fee

If your children are placed in both municipal services and the independent school Olympica, you must inform the municipality's childcare administrator.
