Mother Tongue Instruction

From the first grade in primary school and the adapted primary school, students can receive instruction in the subject of mother tongue.

According to current regulations, at least one of the guardians must have a mother tongue other than Swedish, the student must have basic knowledge of that language, and the language must be the student's daily communication language at home. Mother tongue instruction will be provided if there are at least five students who have applied and are eligible for instruction in the language, as well as if a suitable teacher is available.

National Minorities in Sweden

For students with one of the mother tongues Finnish, Yiddish, Meänkieli, Romani Chib, or Sami, it is sufficient that one student applies for mother tongue instruction and that a suitable teacher is available for the instruction to be arranged.
