Statistics show that many people are moving to the Municipality of Ludvika, and that's why we think it's great to introduce some of them. One of them is Elham Amini.

Welcome to the Municipality of Ludvika, Elham Amini. What brought you here?

– I moved here just under four months ago. My husband got a job at Hitachi and moved here 15 months ago, so we’ve been living apart.
– I’m currently studying Swedish. I’m a doctor, and in order to obtain a Swedish medical licence I have to complete an internship and pass a proficiency exam. I’m taking part in a project run by Region Dalarna that helps us prepare for the exam and improve our Swedish.

Tell us a bit about yourself!

– I’m 35 years old and a doctor. I worked as a pathologist in Iran for nearly four years, which means examining tissue and cell samples and making diagnoses. Before that I worked as a resident, so I have eight years of experience.
– I used to play basketball back home in Iran, both in school and at university. But that was six or seven years ago. When I went to the swimming pool here in Ludvika, I heard they were playing basketball nearby. So I asked if I could join Ludvika Basket, and they let me.
– I read books, watch films, swim and spend time with friends. But a lot of time goes into studying Swedish. It’s full-time studies and I enjoy it! When I study at Samarkand, I have coffee breaks with the staff there, and they’re really lovely! People can’t live more than once, but when they talk about their experiences during coffee breaks and listen to each other’s stories, it feels like they live one more time.

What are your impressions of your new home municipality?

– Everyone I’ve met here is kind! I feel comfortable. Not everything is available here, but what I need is close by. And I get great support from my husband, my friends, the municipality and Region Dalarna.
